McCotter received a Ph.D from the University of Ulster in 2005. Her research topic
was Beatrice Grimshaw's travel writing. She has published numerous papers on this
subject. Her MA dissertation focussed on another Irish woman writer, Kate O'Brien.
Clare is also a psychiatric nurse. She began writing poetry about two years ago.
